A Florida man has been sentenced to 3.5 years in federal prison for a bank fraud and identity theft scheme built on stolen personal data and fake passport cards.
Vontavius Jamaal Bradley, 23, of Pensacola pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud, use of a false passport, and aggravated identity theft, reports WEAR-TV.
Prosecutors say Bradley worked with co-defendants Elizabeth Ann Rogers and Donny Bernard Ross to open accounts at Pensacola-area banks and credit unions using stolen identities.
The group then used those accounts to cash stolen, altered, or counterfeit checks and split the proceeds.
Court records say Bradley supplied the fake U.S. passport cards and other fraudulent identification used in the transactions.
He was also ordered to pay $18,264 in restitution to the financial institutions and identity-theft victims.
Rogers and Ross have pleaded guilty to the same charges and are awaiting sentencing.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service, Homeland Security Investigations, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration.
