An Illinois community hospital is preparing to hand hundreds of thousands of dollars to patients whose private information may have been exposed in a data breach.
Roseland Community Hospital Association has agreed to a $650,000 class action settlement covering about 101,354 people after unauthorized access to its IT network.
The lawsuit alleges negligence after an unauthorized party accessed and acquired patient files on June 2nd of 2024.
Exposed data may have included names, addresses, dates of birth, medical record numbers, health insurance details, diagnoses, treatment information and Social Security numbers for some patients.
Roseland denies wrongdoing and says it settled to avoid the cost and uncertainty of further litigation.
Class members can claim up to $5,000 for documented losses tied to the breach, an estimated $50 pro rata cash payment and one year of free medical records monitoring with up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.
Claims must be filed by December 31st of 2026, with a final approval hearing set for January 6th of 2027.
