New York Wealth Management Firm Discloses Data Breach Exposing Client Information

A New York wealth management firm is notifying affected clients of a data breach that may have exposed personal and financial details.

The Financial Guys found that an intruder gained entry to a single system within a third-party vendor’s computer network on July 9th, reports Claim Depot.

Company officials quickly altered passwords, blocked remote connections and engaged cybersecurity specialists to investigate and secure the environment.

Operations returned to normal shortly afterward, though certain data files could have been accessed by the unauthorized party.

Exposed information potentially includes names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, credit and debit card numbers and various financial account details.

The breach was reported to Massachusetts officials on August 7th.

A law firm is examining the incident for potential legal claims on behalf of impacted individuals seeking recovery for related costs and losses.

The company emphasized in the notification letter that it acted swiftly to mitigate risks and resume normal business activities.

“After determining unauthorized activity occurred on our systems, we immediately began analyzing the information involved and engaged data security and privacy professionals to aid in our response and notify affected individuals and relevant government agencies of this incident.”

The Financial Guys is offering impacted customers free identity theft restoration and credit monitoring through Kroll.
