A Florida care manager is accused of siphoning nearly $100,000 from the bank accounts of two dementia patients under her care to pay her personal credit card bills.
West Palm Beach police say Megan Elizabeth Bernat, 46, of Port St. Lucie used her MorseLife case-manager access to push mobile payments from residents’ accounts onto her Capital One card, reports the Miami Herald.
Detectives say 55 payments totaling about $68,540 left one woman’s TD Bank account for Bernat’s card between February of 2023 and June of 2025.
That resident lived at MorseLife’s West Palm Beach senior community with Alzheimer’s disease and, police say, could not explain or authorize the mobile transfers.
Police say a second MorseLife resident, a 92-year-old man with dementia, had about $31,295 moved from his Wells Fargo account across 30 payments between May of 2023 and April of 2024.
Six of those payments allegedly posted after he died on March 15th of 2024.
MorseLife is a senior living and health campus in West Palm Beach.
Bernat was arrested in September of 2025 on elderly-exploitation and money-laundering charges tied to the first victim and again in July of 2026 on related charges involving the deceased patient.
She has pleaded not guilty in the case involving the deceased resident.
