A healthcare system is preparing to hand more than $1.3 million to patients whose private information may have been exposed in a 2025 data breach.
Central Maine Healthcare and Central Maine Medical Center have agreed to a $1,368,025 class-action settlement covering roughly 218,884 U.S. residents who received breach notices after an unauthorized party accessed the providers’ IT systems.
Central Maine Healthcare says it first detected unusual activity on June 1st of 2025 and determined the unauthorized party had access between March 19th and June 1st of 2025.
Files that may have been accessed or taken included names, dates of birth, treatment information, dates of service, provider names and health insurance details, and for some patients Social Security numbers.
Class members can claim documented losses of up to $5,000 tied to the breach, or take an estimated $50 pro rata cash payment with no proof required.
Everyone in the class can also elect one year of CyEx Medical Shield Complete medical records monitoring, which includes identity theft insurance.
Claims must be filed online or by mail by September 28th of 2026, and a final approval hearing is set for October 28th of 2026.

The Lewiston-based providers operate facilities including the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute and the Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center.
