A Connecticut Comcast store subjected low-performing employees to pies in the face as punishment for missing sales targets, according to a new lawsuit.
The suit filed in Superior Court of New Haven at Meriden alleges the store manager at the Plainville location directed the top sales consultant to tie the lowest performer to a chair in the back office and smash a cream pie into their face, reports al.com.
David Figueroa says he joined as a retail sales consultant on February 2nd and left weeks later after learning of the practice designed to push sales goals.
He claims he saw a coworker endure the punishment while the manager recorded it on video.
Another incident involved a female employee assaulted after a poor customer survey with the event also captured on tape.
A ranking chart in the back office tracked staff performance and marked those targeted for the pie ritual using a pie face emoji.
The complaint accuses Comcast of negligence for failing to oversee management and stop the alleged abuse at the site.
Figueroa seeks compensation for economic losses and emotional distress stemming from the environment.
Comcast has stated it maintains zero tolerance for harassment or humiliation in the workplace and disagrees with the claims while planning to address them through legal channels.
The company adds that the matter remains in litigation.
