Millions of dollars will be dished out to households on the West Coast as an existing guaranteed income program expands.
The nonprofit The Bridge Project, which offers unconditional supplementary income to low-income households, is expanding its guaranteed income program to Multnomah County, Oregon, reports The Outlook.
Multnomah County, with about 815,000 residents, is Oregon’s most populated county.
The guaranteed income program aims to reduce childhood poverty during the first 1,000 days of a child’s life, and will distribute $2.025 million to 100 mothers over three years.
Participants in Multnomah County’s guaranteed income program will receive payments in three phases. Each participant will receive a one-time cash payment of $1,125 during the prenatal stage and then $750 per month for the next 15 months.
In the final phase of 21 months, participants will receive $375 per month, bringing the total to $20,250 for each participant over the course of the program.
To be considered for the guaranteed income program, applicants must meet various requirements, including age and income.
“All applicants must:
– Live in Multnomah County, Oregon.
– Be at least 18 years of age.
– Be at most 27 weeks pregnant, with priority given to moms who are between 20 and 27 weeks pregnant.
– Make less than $39,000 annually.”
Applications are currently open. The monthly payments will start on March 1st.
