A Minneapolis bank teller is accused of stealing nearly $41,000 by falsifying records and swapping real cash for counterfeit bills before disappearing from the job, and possibly heading to the Bahamas.<\/p>\n

Kendrell Lashawna Maliya Stuart, 25, faces a felony theft-by-swindle charge tied to the U.S. Bank branch at 4930 34th Avenue South in Minneapolis, reports<\/a> FOX 9. The charge carries up to 20 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.<\/p>\n

A U.S. Bank investigator told the court Stuart allegedly falsified teller records and stole about $40,999 in cash from the branch where she worked.<\/p>\n

The shortages surfaced in stages. On May 30th of 2026, the branch cash vault was short $32,000. On June 1st, another $1,000 went missing from the vault. On June 5th, Stuart reported her own assigned cash box was short $1,999.94. She then stopped reporting for work and asked for a leave of absence.<\/p>\n

On June 9th, a cash audit found $6,000 in counterfeit bills, described as motion picture money, stored with mutilated currency in the vault, leaving the vault another $6,000 short, the complaint states. Bank records and video surveillance allegedly showed Stuart entering cash transfers from her cash box to the vault without placing the physical cash inside.<\/p>\n

As of July 29th of 2026, she had not returned to work and U.S. Bank terminated her for theft, according to the complaint. Minneapolis police\u2019s Financial Crimes Unit received a report of the theft on August 19th.<\/p>\n

Hennepin County District Court Judge Jamie L. Anderson issued a warrant for Stuart\u2019s arrest, with bail set at $100,000. She is not in custody. The complaint states social media indicates she could be in the Bahamas, her native home.<\/p>\n

U.S. Bank is a major American bank with branches nationwide.<\/p>\n
