Hackers broke into Arizona\u2019s court computer system and copied more than 150,000 Foster Care Review Board recommendation reports dating back to 2010, along with other court records, the Arizona Supreme Court says.<\/p>\n

Chief Justice Ann Scott Timmer announced the attack in a September 25th of 2026 release<\/a>, saying criminal hackers or their bots targeted the state court system and appear to have copied personally identifiable information about many Arizonans.<\/p>\n

According to the court\u2019s cybersecurity alert<\/a>, the intrusion appears to have started on Thursday, September 24th of 2026 around 11:30 a.m. after a phishing email led a court employee to click a malicious link. Court IT shut the attack down less than two hours after it was identified.<\/p>\n

Criminal hackers accessed and copied backup court files. Court leaders say they have no evidence the information has been shared, and it is unclear whether most of the copied data can be easily read.<\/p>\n

More than 150,000 Foster Care Review Board recommendation reports for current and past cases were included, spanning back to 2010, along with records involving active and inactive protective orders that contain some sensitive information. About 8,000 children are currently in foster care in Arizona.<\/p>\n

Foster Care Review Board reports are compiled by citizen panels that review dependency cases and make recommendations to juvenile court judges. They can include case details, children\u2019s information, interested-party names and statements, findings and recommendations for the court, the Department of Child Safety, parents and others.<\/p>\n

Notifications have gone to the Arizona Department of Child Safety, attorneys who represent parents and children in dependency cases, juvenile presiding judges and Foster Care Review Board members. Official updates are being sent from courtnotice@courts.az.gov.<\/p>\n

Timmer described the court\u2019s response in the news release.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs soon as I learned about this outrageous criminal attack on Arizona\u2019s Courts, I immediately called our team together to formulate a response. I personally spoke with the top-ranking FBI leader in the state, and I pledged our full commitment to supporting their investigation and minimizing the likelihood that the information will be used to further jeopardize Arizonans.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The court says no records were deleted or altered, and the attack will not affect pending cases, court orders or court dates. More information is posted at AZCourts.gov.<\/p>\n
