A New Jersey woman has pleaded guilty to bank fraud after trying to deposit a stolen U.S. Treasury check worth $410,085.48 at a Connecticut credit union.<\/p>\n

Madisyn Pettaway, 31, of Newark entered the plea in federal court in Bridgeport, says<\/a> the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the District of Connecticut.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors say Pettaway opened an account at Charter Oak Federal Credit Union on August 27th of 2024 using a fraudulent New Jersey driver\u2019s license, then tried to deposit the Treasury check on September 13th of 2024. Charter Oak did not accept the deposit.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors also say she opened another Charter Oak account in June of 2025 with a fraudulent identity.<\/p>\n

East Lyme police arrested her on July 28th of 2025 while she had a fake New York driver\u2019s license and three debit cards in that name.<\/p>\n

She was arrested on a federal criminal complaint on August 20th of 2025 and released on a $100,000 bond.<\/p>\n

Charter Oak Federal Credit Union is a Connecticut credit union.<\/p>\n

Sentencing is scheduled for December 21st of 2026. Bank fraud carries up to 30 years in prison.<\/p>\n
