A New Jersey small business owner is going viral after firing a no-show employee and then taking a call from the worker\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n

The owner said she had already given the employee a second chance after one missed shift and cut him loose when he failed to show again.<\/p>\n

Soon after the firing, the boy\u2019s mom allegedly called to argue that unpaid work would have been a better way to teach him a lesson.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe mom was like the better approach would be to have him work and not pay him, so, you know, that way he could learn a lesson.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The owner rejected the idea and said teaching a child accountability is a parent\u2019s job, not hers.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s insane how the things these kids get away with and their parents excuse it as if it\u2019s okay, as if it\u2019s normal, I don\u2019t understand it. I don\u2019t want to teach your kid a lesson. That\u2019s not my job, it\u2019s yours.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

She said she is willing to train staff \u2014 but only if they show up.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Commenters largely backed the firing, with several saying parents should not intervene in their children\u2019s jobs \u2014 and noting that unpaid work can create wage liability.<\/a><\/p>\n
