A Bank of America small-business customer has lost nearly $2,000 to unauthorized Zelle transfers and says the trillion-dollar bank is refusing to reimburse her.<\/p>\n

The longtime customer discovered two payments totaling almost $1,980 to a recipient she did not know, reports<\/a> NBC Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

The California physical therapist, identified as Karleen Cox, says her bookkeeper flagged the June transactions on an account she has held for more than 20 years.<\/p>\n

Bank records showed the lender had blocked multiple transfer attempts to the same recipient the day before the successful payments went through.<\/p>\n

A phone number tied to that recipient had also been added as an authorized user on the account.<\/p>\n

Says Cox,<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was so obvious and clear that this wasn\u2019t right. Something had happened. Something had been hacked.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Bank of America repeatedly denied her claim, writing that the transfers used a device consistent with prior valid activity on the account.<\/p>\n

On September 22, the bank confirmed to NBC Los Angeles that Cox\u2019s case is closed.<\/p>\n

Cox says she took out a loan to cover payroll and is considering small claims court.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know to Bank of America, $2,000 may not seem like a lot. But I\u2019m a small business, and $2,000 could be payroll for employees. It\u2019s very impactful for me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
