It dropped further on Wednesday afternoon around the time the U.S. Treasury said it will purchase up to $6 billion of longer-dated government debt on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bitcoin previously <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/bitcoin-blasts-past-68000\">benefited<\/a> from the Treasury Department\u2019s announcement of buybacks \u2014 having its best run in months \u2014 but this time dropped.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 10-year Treasury yield <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-09-23\/us-aims-to-buy-back-up-to-6-billion-in-longer-dated-treasuries\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">climbed<\/a> above 5% on Wednesday for the first time in 19 years, after September\u2019s flash PMI data came in well ahead of forecasts and pushed the composite index to a five-year high.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inflation details added to the pressure: input costs across manufacturing and services rose to their highest level since October 2022, driven largely by fuel and transportation, while wage pressure also strengthened.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rising yields are typically a headwind for bitcoin\u2019s price. When safe government bonds pay 5%, holding an asset that generates no income becomes more expensive.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Higher rates also tend to strengthen the dollar and dampen appetite for risk-on assets.
