First Commonwealth Bank has lost over $56,000 after a customer allegedly wrote dozens of bad checks drawn on her husband\u2019s accounts.<\/p>\n

The transactions involved 24 checks that attempted to take $82,710 before the bank absorbed the shortfall,\u00a0reports<\/a>\u00a0CBS News Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

Ngoc Phuongthi Le, 54, of Churchill is accused of using both personal and business accounts to issue the checks payable to herself.<\/p>\n

She then deposited the items into her own account at the same bank and moved the funds out before the checks could clear, investigators say.<\/p>\n

Authorities charged her with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, access device fraud and 24 counts of issuing bad checks.<\/p>\n

Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala noted that such scams happen frequently and urged individuals and businesses to monitor accounts closely.<\/p>\n

He emphasizes the importance of reporting suspicious activity immediately to help law enforcement build cases effectively.<\/p>\n

The incidents ran from December 22nd of 2025 through January 5th of 2026.<\/p>\n

Bank officials have not commented publicly on changes to their fraud detection systems following the case.<\/p>\n
