Crypto platforms are suffering massive losses to sophisticated exploits despite many having undergone independent security audits.<\/p>\n

A new CoinGecko report<\/a> shows that between January 2025 and July 2026, crypto platforms suffered a staggering $3.63 billion in losses across 245 documented incidents.<\/p>\n

Notably the top 10 largest attacks accounted for more than 72.5% of the total value stolen during the period.<\/p>\n

Out of 245 documented incidents since early 2025, 147 involved protocols that had undergone audits before being compromised.<\/p>\n

These vetted entities represented a staggering 88.44% of the total capital drained over the last 19 months.<\/p>\n

Only about 11.0% of these incidents involved in-scope smart contract flaws though these still resulted in $396 million in losses.<\/p>\n

Infrastructure and supply chain vulnerabilities caused over $1.8 billion in losses while decentralized applications saw $546 million drained through smart contract exploits.<\/p>\n

Active coverage by crypto insurance platforms fell 20.2% from $163.2 million to $130.2 million with cumulative payouts at $33 million.<\/p>\n

As of August 2026 five of nine on-chain insurance protocols have gone inactive or pivoted.<\/p>\n
