The service now hopes to cater to younger wannabe homeowners who have Bitcoin holdings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">JUST IN: <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/17.0.2\/72x72\/1f1fa-1f1f8.png\" alt=\"\ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8\" class=\"wp-smiley\" \/> Coinbase announces the expansion of their Bitcoin-backed mortgages <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/17.0.2\/72x72\/1f440.png\" alt=\"\ud83d\udc40\" class=\"wp-smiley\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Borrowers in the US can now use Bitcoin as collateral for a down payment \u2013 without having to sell it or face margin calls.&#8221; <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/17.0.2\/72x72\/1f680.png\" alt=\"\ud83d\ude80\" class=\"wp-smiley\" \/> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PXNojVSVrl\">pic.twitter.com\/PXNojVSVrl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Bitcoin Magazine (@BitcoinMagazine) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BitcoinMagazine\/status\/2092660624253764067?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 26, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn 2025, high interest rates, record home prices, and limited inventory pushed the median age of a first-time homebuyer to 40,\u201d Chief Technology Officer at Better Mortgage, Ziggy Jonsson, said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCoinbase counts millions of monthly users worldwide, and by allowing Coinbase One members to pledge crypto as collateral without selling their holdings, we\u2019re opening a new path toward homeownership for a generation of borrowers whose wealth increasingly lives onchain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ben Shen, head of financial services and loyalty products at Coinbase, added: \u201cBy enabling borrowers to pledge their digital assets in the mortgage underwriting process, we are allowing crypto to be more useful and powerful in the real-world \u2014 expanding the pathways to homeownership while preserving long-term investment positions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The announcement added that Coinbase One members will be eligible for a rebate equal to 1% of the mortgage value, up to a maximum of $10,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The debut loan by Coinbase and Better was <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/bitcoin-buys-a-home-better-and-coinbase\">closed<\/a> by a married Michigan couple, Joe and Amy, in June.
