Scammers have developed a real-time FaceTime bank scam that aims to extract passwords and drain accounts while victims watch helplessly.<\/p>\n

The scheme involves contacting targets via video call while scammers masquerade as bank representatives, reports<\/a> McAfee.<\/p>\n

Scammers first contact victims by text or phone, pretending to be from their bank or credit card company and claiming suspicious activity, then switch to FaceTime to watch victims share screens and log in to accounts in real time.<\/p>\n

The scheme allows fraudsters to see account numbers, passwords and one-time security codes as they are entered.<\/p>\n

McAfee security experts warn that the method allows fraudsters to act quickly before victims realize the deception, with the visual and interactive nature of FaceTime making the ploy especially convincing.<\/p>\n

Users are advised never to share screens during unexpected calls and to verify any bank communications through official apps or websites.<\/p>\n

Says McAfee:<\/p>\n

\u201cYour bank should never ask you to share your screen or reveal one-time authentication codes. If you receive an unexpected call, hang up and contact your bank using the number on the back of your card or through its official app.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

This evolving tactic highlights the need for heightened caution with video-based requests, as banks never ask customers to reveal codes or share screens.<\/p>\n
