Residents in one part of Washington state have lost more than $673,000 to scams in just three days.<\/p>\n

The Clallam County Sheriff\u2019s Office says<\/a> an 84-year-old victim lost $420,000 after scammers impersonating Microsoft and the FTC convinced the person to buy gold and hand it over.<\/p>\n

Another person lost $50,000 via a phishing email that compromised financial accounts.<\/p>\n

A 64-year-old resident lost $200,000 in cryptocurrency after downloading a fake rescue app while believing they were speaking with Coinbase support.<\/p>\n

And another victim lost $3,500 after purchasing Apple gift cards for a scammer posing as Microsoft technical support.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Clallam County Sheriff\u2019s Office is urging everyone to be on high alert after several residents fell victim to sophisticated scams that cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

These criminals are professional con artists. They create fear, urgency, and trust to convince victims to act before they have time to think.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Authorities urge immediate reporting and verification of any bank-related calls.<\/p>\n

\u201cRemember: Legitimate companies and government agencies will NEVER: <\/em>
\nTell you not to contact local law enforcement. <\/em>
\nAsk you to buy gold, gift cards, or cryptocurrency to \u201cprotect\u201d your money.<\/em>
\nSend someone to your home to collect cash, gold, or valuables. <\/em>
\nAsk for remote access to your computer or phone through an unexpected pop-up or phone call\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
