An Illinois resident has lost $5,000 after a spoof call led her to send money via Zelle under the guise of securing her bank account.<\/p>\n

Susie Allgood says she received a call from someone claiming to be from Zelle who works with Huntington Bank.<\/p>\n

The caller had her bank\u2019s routing number and said she needed to upgrade her Zelle account to a business account to continue receiving money safely, reports<\/a> ABC7 Chicago.<\/p>\n

Allgood was convinced to Zelle $5,000 to the fraudster\u2019s account.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said he was from Zelle and working with Huntington Bank. So, why would I not believe him? He already had my routing number\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

I think that each case needs to be looked at individually because, did I send the money? Yes, I did. But I was also instructed by somebody who had the last four of my bank account.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Huntington Bank says customers are asked to acknowledge that they know who they are sending a transfer Zelle to, and receive\u00a0multiple warnings about scams in the process.<\/p>\n

The victim has reported the incident to authorities and the FBI.<\/p>\n
