{"id":42242,"date":"2026-04-28T13:30:24","date_gmt":"2026-04-28T13:30:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptomag.finance\/?p=42242"},"modified":"2026-04-28T13:30:24","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T13:30:24","slug":"trumps-bitcoin-reserve-could-be-near-as-white-house-signals-major-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptomag.finance\/?p=42242","title":{"rendered":"Trump\u2019s Bitcoin Reserve Could Be Near As White House Signals Major Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A bill to lock in the US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve is being renamed the American Reserves Modernization Act \u2014 and that\u2019s just one sign that the policy is moving faster than many expected.<\/p>\n<h2>Congress And The White House Move In Parallel<\/h2>\n<p>Patrick Witt, executive director of the President\u2019s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, told attendees at the Bitcoin 2026 conference in Las Vegas on Monday that a major update on the reserve is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-4YeXcGSoog&amp;t=125s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">coming within weeks.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He said the executive branch has spent months working through the legal and operational questions needed to properly secure bitcoin already sitting on the government\u2019s balance sheet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe we\u2019re going to be able to take a big step forward from the executive branch side in the next few weeks,\u201d Witt said.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/greekreporter.com\/2026\/04\/28\/white-house-signals-major-bitcoin-reserve-announcement-at-las-vegas-event\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">announcement<\/a>, whatever form it takes, is expected to cover how the reserve will be run and how existing law supports it.<\/p>\n<p>An open question remains: will it say anything about buying more bitcoin? Right now, the reserve holds only seized assets \u2014 bitcoin collected through criminal and civil forfeitures. No new purchases have been authorized.<\/p>\n<p>US President Donald Trump signed an executive order in March 2025 establishing <a href=\"https:\/\/en.bloomingbit.io\/feed\/news\/110891?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">the reserve<\/a>. That order directed the government to hold its existing bitcoin rather than sell it, and created a separate stockpile for other digital assets.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/x\/FEfVRBFI\/\" width=\"1814\" height=\"921\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But executive orders can be reversed by the next administration, which is exactly why lawmakers want a law to back it up.<\/p>\n<h2>The Push To Codify The Reserve<\/h2>\n<p>Sen. Cynthia Lummis and Rep. Nick Begich have been working on legislation to do that. Their bill \u2014 formerly called the Bitcoin Act \u2014 proposes acquiring up to 1 million BTC over five years through budget-neutral strategies.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-893574\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbtc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/a_bd953d.png?resize=554%2C736\" alt=\"\" width=\"554\" height=\"736\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Begich announced the bill is being rebranded as the American Reserves Modernization Act, or ARMA. The changes in the reintroduced version have not been fully disclosed yet.<\/p>\n<p>Witt was clear that legislation must follow any executive action. The White House can move first, but Congress needs to act to make the policy stick.<\/p>\n<p>Market Skepticism Remains<\/p>\n<p>Not everyone is convinced this will move quickly. Polymarket data shows only a 23% chance of the US formally establishing the reserve before 2027. The Clarity Act, a broader crypto market structure bill that was seen as a stepping stone for the reserve, is still facing delays in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>Ethics concerns are also hanging over the broader crypto agenda.
