The British universal bank and financial services group HSBC says the US equities market has likely hit bottom.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a new interview on Squawk on the Street, the bank\u2019s chief multi-asset strategist Max Kettner says that the S&P 500 closing low at 6,343 on Monday could be the near-term low.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c[U]ntil very recently, we didn\u2019t get this overall pretty contrarian bias signal. We haven\u2019t had a pretty sort of strong signal that would tell us everyone\u2019s pretty much out of the market. That, as of last week, is no longer the case.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

We are seeing that across the board from hedging, from skews and put-call ratios to things like surveys, to things like systematic positioning as well so I think very likely the low is in.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

He says that consumer sentiments and positioning indicators are flashing bullish signals for the stock market.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs of last week, both systematic positioning but particularly discretionary positioning, particularly around the hedging side of things, that\u2019s now really triggered the first proper buy signal for the broader risk asset spectrum since the Liberation Day.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not only the hedging side, it\u2019s the systematic side. It\u2019s our momentum signals. It\u2019s surveys. Look at Investor Intelligence, look at AAII, it\u2019s a bunch of things. They\u2019re over-hedged. Maybe people are over-hedged, but they haven\u2019t cut and they\u2019re actually not telling us they\u2019re bearish.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
