Hundreds of thousands of Americans are being warned about a data breach at the financial services firm Hightower Holding.<\/p>\n

In a report sent<\/a> to the Maine Attorney General, the Chicago-based firm says user credentials were compromised, triggering unauthorized access to its computer network in early January.<\/p>\n

An investigation later determined that specific files were downloaded without authorization which contained personal and private identifying information, including names, Social Security numbers and driver\u2019s license numbers.<\/p>\n

The filing shows that 131,483 people were affected by the incident, including 1,557 Maine residents.<\/p>\n

The breach was discovered on March 12, 2026 and affected individuals were notified on March 23, 2026.<\/p>\n

According to the statement, Hightower identified a compromised user account that enabled unauthorized access to its network around January 9, 2026, and a subsequent investigation found that files were improperly downloaded between January 8 and January 9, 2026.<\/p>\n
