A teller has admitted to stealing more than $15,000 from a credit union\u2019s cash drawer and calling the police to conceal her actions.<\/p>\n

The United States Attorney\u2019s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania says<\/a> 48-year-old Nicole Hilstolsky pleaded guilty to one count of theft by a credit union employee after stealing $16,247 from the cash drawer of the now-defunct W.O.D. Federal Credit Union in 2018.<\/p>\n

Court records show that after stealing the money, Hilstolsky called 911 to report that two armed men had robbed the lender and taken the security cameras with them.<\/p>\n

In reality, she hid the money somewhere inside the credit union until she had the opportunity to pocket the funds days later.<\/p>\n

Says<\/a> Assistant US Attorney James M. Buchanan, as reported by the ABC-affiliated WNEP-TV,<\/p>\n

\u201cNone of that happened. [Hilstolsky] emptied out the credit union of cash, she ripped out the security camera, and she hid those items while lying to the police and FBI. Due to her lies, the investigators spent time searching for dangerous, armed criminals, who did not, in fact, exist.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Prosecutors say Hilstolsky used the money to pay off her debts.<\/p>\n

Hilstolsky admitted to the crime in 2025 when she was caught embezzling $950 from her employer at the time, the U.F.C.W. Credit Union in Wyoming.<\/p>\n

She has been sentenced to spend eight months behind bars with two years of supervised release.<\/p>\n
