The digital dating giant Tinder has agreed to pay millions of dollars to settle a lawsuit accusing it of discriminating against users based on their age.<\/p>\n

According a newly updated settlement administrator\u2019s portal, Tinder will pay $60.5 million to settle allegations that it charged higher prices to older users in California.<\/p>\n

The class action lawsuit, which was filed in May of 2015, alleged that Tinder\u2019s practice of charging higher prices to older users violated California\u2019s laws.<\/p>\n

After attorneys\u2019 fees, litigation and other administrative costs are deducted, around $39.72 million will be shared<\/a> among Tinder subscribers who were affected over a period of roughly four years.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you purchased Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold in California at any time between March 2, 2015, when you were over the age of 29 (or any time after March 2, 2016, when you were over the age of 28), and February 10, 2019, you may be a member of the class.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The sum that each settlement class member will receive will be determined by dividing the court-approved net settlement amount by the number of participating claimants. The figure will also be determined by the amount each individual paid as a subscription fee for either Tinder Gold or Tinder Plus.<\/p>\n

To receive a payment, the settlement class members are required to inform the settlement administrator of their preferred payment method by August 18th.<\/p>\n

The final approval hearing will be held on May 20th.<\/p>\n

Despite agreeing to the settlement, the court has not decided the lawsuit either in favor of Tinder or the plaintiffs.<\/p>\n
