JPMorgan Chase is in the spotlight after freezing a deposited check and refusing to allow a couple to access their funds for nearly two years.<\/p>\n

It began when Jose Maximiliano\u2019s wife Maria Mercedes Diaz Ortiz deposited a $102,914 check into her account, reports<\/a> NBC 5 Chicago.<\/p>\n

The six-figure check was compensation awarded to Maximiliano following an accident at work.<\/p>\n

Jose had permanently returned to Mexico, so he personally endorsed the check there before his wife deposited it.<\/p>\n

But after it was deposited, JPMorgan Chase froze the check and blocked Ortiz\u2019s accounts, including one that had $3,115 in it.<\/p>\n

Despite Ortiz presenting her marriage certificate, ID and other documents several times in a bid to make her case to JPMorgan Chase, the money remained frozen for nearly two years. At that point, Maximiliano\u2019s family turned to NBC 5 Chicago for help.<\/p>\n

Upon NBC 5 Chicago contacting JPMorgan Chase about the matter, the lender returned a total of $106,029.<\/p>\n

The bank then released a statement on what happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo help prevent fraud, we restricted the account after additional review and information provided by a customer, we released the funds and regret the delay in this process.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
